Personally

As a Parent

I am blessed to have a wonderful son. Tyler Gregory Wood has just turned 22 years old. He is a graduate from Somerset High School, is a student at Somerset Community College, and he works for a local gym. He is a member of First Baptist Church and likes outdoor activities, kayaking, target practice, playing basketball, and going to the gym.

For many years, my hobbies and interests revolved around Tyler, as is the nature of being a parent. Whether it was helping with schoolwork, attending his functions, teaching him how to swim, playing catch, his world was my world. Now that he is older, his schedule is pretty busy. I truly enjoy every moment of time we get to spend together. I especially like going to the shooting range with him.

Although, now, he tends to “coach” me on how to improve, I would not have it any other way.

As a Wife

Kevin and I were married in 2016, after having dated for nearly ten years. Kevin is from Hindman, Knott County, Kentucky and is a graduate of Morehead State University with a degree in Social Science. He is Case Manager for the 28th Judicial Circuit Drug Court and served in drug court since 2005. As Drug Court Case Manager, he oversees and supervises those being rehabilitated from drug addiction.

Kevin has served as an assistant football coach since 1994 for Knott County High School (4 years),Somerset High School (12 years), Campbellsville High School (2 years), Wayne County High School (8 years), and currently beginning his second year consulting with Lousiville Trinity High School.

Kevin is very caring and supportive. We love spending time together whether we are doing something fun, or simply nothing at all.

As a Sibling

Jenny Gregory Cothron and Tommy Gregory are my siblings. I am so proud of my sister and brother.

Jenny is married to Jeff Cothron and they have two children. Jenny has a Bachelor of Science Degree with a minor in chemistry, a RPH degree, and is pharmacy manager at Kroger South, Stonegate Center. Jeff works for Somerset Independent Schools and he also coaches basketball.

Tommy is married to Susan Gregory and they also have two children. Tommy has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Chemistry and Rank One in education. He teaches biology and chemistry at Atherton High School in Louisville. Susan is program manager of parts micro enterprise for General Electric.

While I am the oldest, Jenny is eleven months younger (we are the same age for a moth each year) and Tommy is thirty months younger. As we are so close in age, the three of us grew up together and were involved in many of the same activities.

My Parents

My parents were Dr. Allen Hail Gregory, M.D., and Joyce Murphy Gregory.

Mom was a graduate of Somerset High School. While in school, she worked at J.J. Newberry’s in Somerset. After graduating, she worked for Dr. Robert McLeod, M.D. and then for Kentucky Utilities until her marriage to my father. She was the youngest of five children born to Charles and Edna Phelps Murphy: Robert, Evelyn, Mary Jo, and her twin brother, Jack. Her father worked for Southern Railway.

Mom taught pre-teen Sunday School at First Baptist Church. She worked for the Department for Mental Health while dad was in medical school. She served as President for the Kentucky Medical Auxiliary and was Kentucky Health Chairman Representative for the American Medical Auxiliary. She served on Burnside City Council from 1999 through 2002 and again from 2011 through 2016. She also serve on the Burnside Planning and Zoning Committee. She was a Past First Lady as dad served as Potentate of the Olika Shrine for Kentucky. Mom served on several international mission trips including China, Trinidad, India, Brazil, and the Amazon.

My father taught chemistry at Somerset High School, he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, and thereafter graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dad practiced medicine as an OBGYN. Thereafter, he and mom were very active with the Olieka Shrine, and dad served as Potentate in 1999. He also served on Burnside’s Planning and Zoning Committee.

Dad’s parents were Sidgel F. Gregory, M.D. and Kate Hail Gregory. His father was a physician and a veteran of WWI. Kate (my “Nanny”) was a first grade teacher, teaching at Fourth Ward School and retiring from Porter Hopkins Elementary School. She taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church.

Hobbies & Interests

As a child, my grandmother would have me sit with her at the piano or organ, and would spend hours playing and showing me how to play. My parents also encouraged me in music. I began playing the flute when I was around eleven years old. During a competition in Florida when I was a senior in high school, I was offered a collegiate scholarship for playing my flute. I declined as I did not prefer my hobby to become my career. I still play from time to time, and look forward to playing my flute with the orchestra each year for the Living Christmas Tree at church.

I love warm weather and sunshine. I also like to read. My idea of relaxation would simply be sitting outside in the sunshine reading a book.
